THE BLACKHAWKS have the two highest-paid door openers in the world. When Nikolai Khabibulin plays, backup Cristobal Huet gets $68,598 per game to work the door from his seat at the end of the bench. When Huet plays, Khabibulin gets $82,317 a night to display his latch skills. BRIAN HAYWARD’S famous shark mask, featured in The Hockey News Greatest Masks of All-Time, actually had a twin. Designer Greg Harrison was given credit for the shark-tooth creation, but the original designer was Don Strauss of Armadilla Mask. Strauss came up with the idea, presented it to Hayward prior to 1991-92 and the Sharks goalie used it for most of that season before switching to the similar-looking Harrison mask. SPECTRUM: A SPECIAL RINK

THERE WAS A not-so-memorable parade before the first NHL game at the Philadelphia Spectrum, which opened in 1967 and will close its doors forever sometime in 2009. “I remember the parade, they introduced the team,” said Lou Angotti, the Flyers’ first captain. “They had a parade down Broad Street somewhere. There was nobody there.” In the last NHL game ever played at the Spectrum – actually, a pre-season Flyers-Phantoms game in early October – owner Ed Snider, the coaches and top-level Flyers employees wore orange blazers made from the original fabric they wore on opening day 41 years ago. “To see Mr. Snider in his bright orange jacket today…that gives us all a good chuckle,” said Kevin Dineen, the captain in 1993-94.
