FREE AGENT WATCH Although the salary cap is rising, GM Don Maloney’s thought process remains the same. He’s rebuilding the team step by step and the Coyotes’ unexpected success in 2007-08 has reinforced his plan. It’s certain the Coyotes again will be near the bottom of the salary ladder. Maloney will be analyzing the team and looking at holes to fill, hoping to find an undervalued player who might thrive in a new environment. The key UFA is Radim Vrbata, who established career highs in goals (27) and points (56), but had a late-season drop-off. Vrbata made $1.2 million last season and has indicated he would like to stay. Daniel Carcillo, the NHL penalty minutes leader who is beginning to show an offensive touch, will be an RFA.…
