WHEN YOU’VE SPENT time on the power play working behind guys named Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr, you get a pretty good sense of how the whole thing works. Philadelphia assistant coach Joe Mullen, a Hall of Famer who did some secondary power play work during Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup years in the early 1990s, has helped elevate the Flyers’ power play unit to first or second in the NHL for much of the season. Some of the credit for that success obviously goes to the members of the team’s second option. The three or four forwards – usually Jeff Carter, Joffrey Lupul, Scott Hartnell or R.J.
