NHL GOALERS RATE THE SHOOTERS AND BOBBY HULL RANKS NO.1
It will come as no surprise to readers that National Hockey League goal-tenders rate Bobby Hull the greatest shooter in the game today. By an overwhelming majority, 18 NHL netminders voted the great Chicago Black Hawk star the No. 1 shot-maker around, his absence through the first part of this season notwithstanding, in a survey conducted for HOCKEY ANNUAL Magazine. However, the rankings of some of the others on the list of the ten best shooters may surprise some. The list shows that the ten best shooters in the opinion of the goalies may not always be the best scorers. Skating speed and shiftiness give many men more scoring opportunities than others, but in this survey, shooters were being rated by shooting alone. GLEN SATHER THE HARD NOSE PENGUIN
Clack! Clack! Left wing Glen Sather of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Keith Magnuson of the Chicago Black Hawks stood on the rim of the face-off spot near the Pens’ goal, smashing each other’s stick to the ice. This had happened several times in the hard-checking game. Something was bound to give in Pittsburgh’s Civic Arena and it did. Magnuson went deep in the corner for the puck, and the fiery Sather was right behind him. They collided against the boards. The boards boomed, the crowd cheered, and both men skated back to the face-off. Who said what to whom? Whatever was said didn’t have to be repeated. Sather, who had started to skate away, whirled, stripping off his gloves. Magnuson was just a split second behind. They belted each other good clouts…
