Clack! Clack! Left wing Glen Sather of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Keith Magnuson of the Chicago Black Hawks stood on the rim of the face-off spot near the Pens’ goal, smashing each other’s stick to the ice. This had happened several times in the hard-checking game. Something was bound to give in Pittsburgh’s Civic Arena and it did. Magnuson went deep in the corner for the puck, and the fiery Sather was right behind him. They collided against the boards. The boards boomed, the crowd cheered, and both men skated back to the face-off. Who said what to whom? Whatever was said didn’t have to be repeated. Sather, who had started to skate away, whirled, stripping off his gloves. Magnuson was just a split second behind. They belted each other good clouts…
