1969-70 Home Schedule WHAT HABSDID … Last Season Played: 76 Won: 46 Lost: 19 Tied: 11 Scored: 271 Against: 202 Points: 103 Finished: 1st COACH: CLAUDE RUEL 1968-69 JEAN BELIVEAU — center One NHL veteran who seems to-be getting better with time … Last season he provided ice leadership as Canadiens won another Stanley Cup … Team captain, he scored 33 goals, had 49 assists for 82 points, 8th highest in NHL … Selected to second All-Star team, he also raised career goal output to 463 … Lost third place in all-time goal race to Bobby Hull. Starting 17th year. HENRI RICHARD — centre Showed some of his old time form last season after hitting low point in career previous year with 28 points … In 64 games, he counted 15 goals, 37 assists for 52 points as he concluded 14th NHL season ……


BRAD PARK: sounds like a shopping center
BRAD PARK, THE 21 YEAR-OLD baby-faced, rookie defenseman from the Toronto Marlboros walked silently from the office of New York Ranger general manager Emile Francis. He was obviously unhappy and downcast. Park had just been sent down to Buffalo of the American Hockey League despite a sensational training camp in which he had been the outstanding defenseman of the entire New York blueline corps. “Don’t worry, kid,” consoled trainer Frank Paice. “You will be back.” “You bet I will. I know I can play in the National Hockey League and I am going to prove it eventually,” said Park. HE LETS HIS GOALING DO THE TALKING!
IN THE NEWSPAPER BUSINESS, Cesare Maniago is what sportswriters refer to as “poor copy.” The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Minnesota North Stars goalkeeper is not a snob, however. As a matter of fact, he is very friendly and easily approached before or after a game. But rarely does Cesare say anything about himself that can be construed as a scoop. Consequently, the likeable nine year pro from Trail, B.C. frequently goes for long periods of time during a season without seeing his name in headlines or his picture attached to a full length feature story. ’’Maybe Cesare prefers to let his goalkeeping do the talking,” suggested Wren Blair, the fiery Minnesota general manager and coach who took Maniago in the 1967 National Hockey League expansion draft even though there were other more experienced men…
