Better Be Prepared. It’s High Finances And The Profits Are Small Whether It’s The NHL Or The WHA
The shocking news that the New York Islanders were in debt to the tune of almost $7 million has given the public and the fan paying the freight a previously off limits peek at the finances of hockey. The Islanders, rated as one of the top four teams in the National Hockey League’s so-called Super Six, sell out their home rink the Nassau Coliseum, with crowds of 15,317 for at least 30 of their 40 home games. They take in an additional $200,000 for TV and radio rights. Last year, with 604,03 I fans clicking through the turnstiles at home games in the regular season, they grossed $4.5 million, yet reportedly lost $2 million.
