A welcome slice of innocence

NHL participation at the Olympics has been a blessing, providing hockey fans – and a wider audience – the absolute best the game has to offer. We wouldn’t want it any other way. But as the old trade cliche goes, you gotta give something to get something. In this case the innocence of amateurship has been sacrificed. Fortunately, we have the World Junior Championship to fill that void. A day after watching our own children revel in the joy of Christmas, we settle in to watch other people’s kids revel in the joy of the game and their country. ENVER LISIN Right Wing Lisin, Phoenix’s second round pick in 2004, is lightning fast and is a great scorer. Lisin also has soft hands and good hockey sense, but his game is speed. DENIS PARSHIN Right Wing Parshin is a small and quick forward with a great set of hands and can be very dangerous. The Colorado third-rounder in 2004 has that “wow” factor. ALEXANDER RADULOV Left Wing Radulov is playing in his second Quebec League season. He has great skill and a good feel for the game and will be expected to contribute offensively. KIRILL LYAMIN Defense There was a buzz about Lyamin when Ottawa drafted him in 2004, but then his play dropped off. The tournament in Vancouver will be a character test.…
