Jack Fox Memorial To Capitals’ Reid
NEW YORK. N.Y.— The five man refereeing staff of the American Hockey League, who are in a perfect position to do the judging, have decided that Jerry Reid of the Indianapolis Capitals is the player who best combines efficient playing ability with clean and gentlemanly conduct during games. The twenty two year old Hoosier center player thus becomes the winner of the Jack Fox Memorial Trophy and a $300 league cash bonus which is presented annually to the league’s best sportsman. In gaining his honor, Reid spent only four minutes in the penalty box, on two minor sentences, in 69 regular season games. For his three year career in the AHL. Reid has a total of but 32 minutes. 18 in his rookie year of 1948-49, 10 in 1949-50 and this…
NHL Star Choices Rile Conn Smythe As Leafs Missing
(Sports Editor, Toronto Globe and Mail) TORONTO. This observer’s choice was Al Rollins in goal, Red Kelly and Jim Thomson on defense, Milt Schmidt at centre, Ted Lindsay and Gord Howe on the wings. On…

Tobin, who acted as supervisor for the N.H.L. during this year’s playoffs, had this to say about the officiating: “Every game was well handled and I think the referees deserve a lot of credit for the excellent way in which, they coped with certain situations that may have proved troublesome with less competent officials.”…Bob Dawes may not be able to walk for months and will be lucky to skate in six months. The tall center of the Montreal Canadiens who broke his leg in several places during the final game of the playoffs is presently in a Montreal hospital. The break was in the middle of the leg and…
