DeMarco Most valuable In AHL, Takes Cunningham And $300 Too
NEW YORK. N.Y.— Ab DeMarco, veteran center ice star of the Buffalo Bisons has been selected by the members of the American Hockey League press and radio as the circuit’s Most Valuable Player for the season of 1950-51. Thus for the second consecutive year, a player who led the regular season scoring race and was then voted to the first All Star team becomes the league’s most valuable, as Les Douglas of the Cleveland Barons performed the feat last season. For his achievement, DeMarco will receive the Leslie Cunningham Trophy, presented by the St. Louis Flyers Booster Club, and a league cash bonus of $300. Boston Vet Polls 12 Points On Richard
MONTREAL, Que.— Milt Schmidt had to play in the National Hockey League for 12 seasons before he was able to win one of the League’s prized indiviidual awards. However, the 1950-51 season proved to be the greatest in his career and the 33-year-old captain of the Boston Bruins was selected as winner of hockey’s highest individual award, the Hart Trophy. In winning the Hart Trophy for 1950-51, Schmidt amassed a total of 40 points out of a possible 54, and finished 12 points ahead of Maurice Richard of Canadiens, who polled 28 points. Points were awarded on a three-two-one basis, and the selections were made by a panel of 18 hockey writers and broadcasters—three from each N.H.L. City. Haldorsen Ekes Pair Of Royals In Loop Scoring
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Lloyd Doc Haldorsen, the veteran Tulsa warrior, finished ahead of the United States Hockel League the final look at the statistics shows. Haldorsen, in 62 games scored 27 goals and added the amazing total of 67 assists for a grand sum of 94 points. He was two points ahead of Cal Stearns of the Kansas City Royals. It was a three way battle through most of the season for the honors with Haldorsen, Stearns and Ike Hildebrand, also of the Royals in the race. Both Stearns and Hildebrand led the loop at some time or other during the season. In 64 games Stearns netted 28 goals and 64 assists for 92 points. Hildebrand, who led the loop in actual goal scoring, netted the disc 42 times during the regular season. He…
