Hamilton City Pays Honor To Tiger Players
HAMILTON— Before the start of a regular Ontario Hockey Association senior tussle here at the arena last Wednesday evening, the City of Hamilton officially feted the Hamilton Tigers for their great record during the past two seasons of senior competition. Before the game the long delayed ceremonies finally took place, when members of the Tattered Tigers were presented by city officials with watches in recognition for two straight championships the club has won. The idea of the presentation was to honor the players who carried Hamilton’s name into the finals for the Allan Cup two years ago. After the Tigers eliminated the highlyfavored Montreal Royals in the Eastern Canada finals they lost out to the Calgary Stampeders in the finals out west. Seattle Ironmen Best Winning Team In P.C.H.L Since Loop’s ‘45 Start
On October 21, 1946 the Portland Eagles lost to the Seattle Ironmen 7-3 in the first game played in the present Pacific Coast Hockey League. The game was played in Seattle before a packed house and at 3:45 of the first period, Roger Jenkins took a pass from Shorty Coombs to become the first player to score a goal in league play. Later in the game, Frank Dotten scored three goals to become the first player to turn the hat trick.
