Naughty Netminders
In the American Hockey League last season six of the goalies were penalized, Hec Highton of the St. Louis Flyers for 22 minutes and Gordie Bell of the Pittsburgh Hornets, 16 minutes. Those who had two minutes in penalties included Tommy Wilson, of St. Louis; Roger Bessette, Cleveland Bar-ons; Harvey Bennett Hershey Bears; and Floyd Perras, Springfield Indians. When Herb Goren of the New York Sun asked Lester Patrick the other day whether Madison Square Garden would ever consider installing a second hockey franchise in the Garden as in former years, the “Silver Fox” blasted the idea but quick. “Of course we couldn’t have two teams in the Garden,” he said. “That would be syndicate hockey. And to have some new magnate step in and operate a club in competition with our own in the same building doesn’t exactly make sense. “If the new Madison Square Garden, now in the planning stage is ever constructed then it is conceivable that New York would have two hockey teams.
