Weakened St. Mike’s Bow To Nationale Oshawa Downs Royals In Junior Play

MONTREAL— The once-powerful Toronto St. Michael’s Majors who swept through all oppsition to capture the Memorial Cup and Canadian junior hockey Championship the weekend spring, bit the dust here over Nationale walloped them 8-2 in the Sportsmen’s Association pre-season series. St-Mike’S, with only one player left from last season’s steamroller squad, were but a shadow of the great team that didn’t lose a playoff game last spring. Oshawa general trounced Montreal Royals Juniors 9-3 in the other half of a Sunday doubleheader. Generals next week Canucks in the St. Mary’s tangle with Edmonton Canucks in the semi-final round of knockout play.…

Teams Prepare For Monday’s All-Star Game

TORONTO— Hockey’s biggest show in years comes up for customer approval on Monday, October 13, when the world champion Toronto Maple Leafs and the National Hockey League All-Stars usher in the 1947-48 season at Maple Leaf Gardens. Judging by fan interest already manifested, the S.R.O. sign will be hung out quickly and some 15,000 citizens will be on deck, thus assuring the N.H.L. Players Pension Fund and the humanitarian Community Chest welfare project of substantial financial returns. Entire proceeds of the game go to these two funds. Premier George Drew of Ontario. Mayor Saunders of Toronto and the most glittering cast of hockey celebrities ever brought together will be in attendance, both at the game and at the pregame Victory-All-Star dinner to be provided by the Toronto management. Western Senior Teams Commence Heavy Drills

REGINA, SASK.— Last year’s Western Champions, the Calgary Stampeders are beginning to round into shape following a week of arduous drills. Coach Jack Arbour has formed at least three, potential lineups among the crop of players trying Out this year for berths on the 1946-47 Dominion finalists. The railbirds seemed impressed with the goings on at the Victoria Arena last week and they were of the belief that the Stamps would be the team to beat. Forming one unit on the team are Ken Hunter, Bob Brownridge and Dune Grant.
