Only four players have ever won both the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanlike play and the Dr. David A. Hart Trophy as most valuable player to his team in the National Hockey League. Carnegie, McIntyre Shift Hockey Fortunes To France
SHERBROOKE, Que— Sherbrooke’s negro comets of the ice lanes, Manny McIntyre and linemate Ossie Carnegie have signed with the Paris Hockey Club of Paris, France, this season, according to the Canadian representative of the Paris Club, Jack Mousette. The celebrated Negro stars, who paced the Sherbrooke St. Francis club to the Provincial Hockey League title for the 1946-47 season and made such an impressive showing against the Allan Cup champion Montreal Royals in the Quebec final signed player contracts recently in Sherbrooke. They left in late August for Paris as the International League, of which Paris is a member, commences its schedule in mid-October. Quebec League Gets Air Time As ‘Pep’ Plan
—MONTREAL The Junior Amateur Hockey Association appears to be headed for one of the biggest seasons in its history. The Quebec circuit is taking on all the aspects of a “big time” outfit, akin to the status of the Junior “A” Ontario Hockey Association group, and a good deal of the credit for its forward march can be traced to Frank Selke, the major domo of Montreal Canadiens. Selke realizes the value of a strong junior league, one where it is possible to groom and’ keep an eye on budding youngsters. While he was right-hand man to Conny Smythe in Toronto, Selke took a keen interest in the juniors. Many of the youngsters he ‘spotted’ turned up later in Maple Leaf uniforms.
