Keen on golden prospects
The Mighty Ducks are understandably pleased with the top end of their prospect collection, a group that includes 2005 Canada World Junior Championship gold medalists Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, as well as 2004 first-rounder Ladislav Smid. Even more encouraging is the organization’s depth. Whereas not so long ago, the Ducks would have had trouble justifiably filling out a list of top-10 prospects, they now boast as many as 15-20 youngsters with NHL-caliber upside. Prospects gain maturity
If any good comes out of the lockout for the Los Angeles Kings, it could be the maturity some of their top prospects gain by playing in the American League. While opponents have complained that the Kings loaded their Manchester roster with NHL caliber players, GM Dave Taylor knows playing time now can only help the Kings when the NHL resumes. “There are a lot of guys down here playing big minutes,” Taylor said. “The shifts they get on the power play, penalty killing and 5-on-5 will make them better.” Here are the top five prospects: 1.
