Harvard hurting as plug pulled on power play

Harvard’s power play, one of the most feared weapons in the ECAC last year, has been more like a rocking horse this season - a lot of activity, but it doesn’t really get anywhere. Through 13 games, the Crimson were clicking at just 16 per cent (8-for-50), and as a result Harvard (6-5-1) hadn’t been able to put a good run together. Crimson coach Mark Mazzoleni knows the problem; now, he just has to find the solution. “Last year, we had Dom Moore and Brett Nowak out there and opponents had to honor both sides of the ice because we could spread it out more,” Mazzoleni said. “If teams over-loaded on Dom and Brett, we could run it to the other side to Tim Pettit and Tyler Kolarik. Christmas will come two days late for the Coyotes this year. Win over rival bittersweet for Warriors’ Serino

Chris Serino, Merrimack’s sixth-year coach, savored a victory over New Hampshire in mid-December that finally broke a horrible futility streak, but said he had mixed emotions. The Warriors had gone 29 games (0-26-3) without a win over the Wildcats. That depressing run came to a resounding end Dec. 13 when the Warriors shocked the Wildcats 7-2 in Durham, N.H. Serino had spent seven years as an assistant at New Hampshire under Wildcats coach Dick Umile, who brought him to the school. “I really like the people up there,” Serino said. “Dick is a close friend of mine. When 1 was sick (Serino battled throat cancer), Dick and the people up there were very good to me. So I’m not going to gloat over a win like that.” SPOTLIGHT UMass-Lowell coach Blaise MacDonald was…
