Templeton’s future depends on final run

The Canadian Hockey League’s second-winningest coach is skating on thin ice. Sudbury’s Bert Templeton, who has 904 career Ontario League wins, was blindsided by recent comments made by team owner Mark Burgess about the pending fate of his coach-GM. “Something of this magnitude you’d think would be done face-to-face,” Templeton said after he read Burgess’s comments in the Sudbury Star. Pederson, 35, was drafted 15th overall in 1986 by Montreal and played 169 NHL games for four teams. He spent the past seven seasons toiling in Europe. “Being gone so long, I needed to get reacquainted with some people,” Pederson said. “It was a good stepping stone.” Pederson is the Gulls’ top goal-scorer, with 27 in 45 games. In a two-game series against the Idaho Steelheads this year, he scored all four of San Diego’s goals-and the shootout winner.…

Hull hid, nearly invisible, along the left boards late in the second period of the Red Wings’ 5-4 victory over the San Jose Sharks Feb. 10. Then he slipped into scoring position in the circle, dropped on his right knee and reaching back with his stick, one-timed a pass past Evgeni Nabokov for his 700th NHL goal. Hull, 38, became only the sixth player to reach the milestone, joining Wayne Gretzky (894 goals), Gordie Howe (801), Marcel Dionne (731), Phil Esposito (717) and Mike Gartner (708), and he did it in 1,157 games. Only Gretzky did it in fewer, 886. “It’s a thrill to be a part of those guys,” Hull said. “It means a lot more that…
