San Diego’s Trevor Koenig has dominated the West Coast League like no other goalie before. The netminder started 11 of 12 consecutive Gulls’ wins and already has set a new league record with six shutouts. He said the team’s recent success, fueled by a few key additions, rubbed off on him. “You start feeling stingy,” Koenig said. “You don’t like it when guys score on you.” He can’t explain the shutouts, which tops the record of five he shared with Blair Allison. ‘They always seem to come in groups,” he said. “Every so often I start to feel my game coming into place.”…

Sizzling scoring streak has Hossa on a high

This time, it appears Marcel Hossa is in the NHL to stay. Recalled by the Canadiens in early January, the left winger scored five goals in his first four games, including a pair in a 4-2 win over Calgary Jan. 13. “I know I can’t score in every game,” said Hossa before he and his teammates were shut out 1-0 at Atlanta Jan. 15. “I’m trying to play my game and be consistent.” Fast starts are nothing new for Hossa, the younger brother of Ottawa sniper Marian. But consistency has been an elusive quality for the team’s first round draft choice (16th overall) in 2000. Hossa scored twice in as many games for Montreal last January before being sidelined with a wrist injury; he was eventually demoted to the American League. He scored…
