Lightning trying to sidestep another New Year’s slump
The Lightning’s New Year’s resolution? Win in January. That hasn’t been an easy task in recent seasons. In fact, Tampa Bay is a miserable 10-52-5-2 in the past five Januarys, something that has not been lost on the players. “It hasn’t been good in the past, we all know it,” said center Tim Taylor. “It’s something for us to work harder for. We’re trying to change the ways of the Tampa Bay Lightning.” That is most important this season as the team entered January two points ahead of Washington atop the Southeast Division. Ottawa touting Chara tor All-Star Game spot
Zdeno Chara has made a big impact in Ottawa and his next step could be a stop with the NHL’s elite. There’s a chance the 6-foot-9 blueliner will be selected to play in the Feb. 2 AllStar Game. “I definitely think he should be there,” said assistant coach Don Jackson, a former NHL blueliner. “He should be on the ballot.” Not only has Chara made a huge impact physically, he has also started to chip in on offense.
