Lacroix’s busy summer not over: GM still must sign Drury, Hejduk
GM Pierre Lacroix had too much work to do to sit around and bemoan the plight of his Colorado Avalanche. There was yet another new owner, Stan Kroenke, to welcome to the Mile High City and there were plenty of players to sign to new contracts. So, all in all, it was a busy summer for the team that has come within one victory the past two years of qualifying for the Stanley Cup final. Here’s what you need to know about Hawks’ training camp. Training camp opens Sept. 8 in Englewood, Colo. Pre-season opener Sept. 14 vs. Dallas in Denver. Rookies to watch With Marc Denis gone, goalie David Aebischer is the new heir apparent to Patrick Roy. Why else do you think Carter didn’t take the Bruins to arbitration? He knew he wouldn’t stand a chance. On the other hand, Carter is the Bruins’ third best forward behind Jason Allison and Joe Thornton. Not…

Many organized amateur sports have been making the mouthguard, an increasingly important piece of equipment, mandatory. Mouthguards in the past have been restrictive and uncomfortable. It was it hard to breathe or even communicate with your teammates, plus there was the peer pressure factor. Athletes deemed it wasn’t cool. Times have changed. During the past five years, head injuries have gained media attention in sports, particularly in the NHL, where high profile players such as Pat LaFontaine and Brett Lindros have suffered career-ending concussions. Properly fitted mouthguards are worn to protect athletes from a wide variety of injuries. Lost teeth…
