Admirals abandon lock in favor of parent trap

An off-season change in strategy was paying surprising dividends for the Milwaukee Admirals in the early weeks of the International League season. The primary affiliate of the NHL’s Nashville Predators, the Admirals met with Predators’ coach Barry Trotz during the off season to leam the big league team’s system. “We want it so that when players go up and down, they don’t even need a chalk talk,” said Admirals’ coach A1 Sims, whose team was off to a 7-1-2 start. The substance of the change, Sims said, was abandoning the left wing lock system employed last year in the first season of the affiliation and going to a hard, forceful trap game. “We have great team speed so that made sense and we can get in very quickly and forecheck and force turnovers,” Sims…
