Checkers' Noren crowned all-time ECHL scoring king
There's a new king of points in the East Coast League. Charlotte center Darryl Noren assumed the mantle of all-time leading scorer in the 11-year-old league March 16 when he assisted on a second-period goal by defenseman Louis Bernard in the Checkers' 5-4 victory over the visiting Florida Everblades. That gave Noren 635 points, one more than long-time leader Trevor Jobe, who spent the early part of the season with the Baton Rouge Kingfish before heading overseas. They have a really good club and it's exciting…

Poile holds course on long-term plan while pushing for earlier deadline day
In the eyes of Nashville Predators' GM David Poile, a flip of a calendar page is all that's needed. He believes a trade deadline with 12 games to play in the regular season just doesn't make sense. “That's just one manager's opinion, but the things that are happening, the number of trades, is almost ridiculous,” Poile said. “I think it is affecting too much change in a season and it's not right or fair to the game.” In large part, as expected, Poile stood pat in the trading season. He talked to most teams, but with a thin roster of a first-year franchise, the playoffs out of reasonable reach and a desire to hang on to as many draft picks as possible, he elected to sit the flurry out. Poile came away with…
