Johnson makes progress, but return still uncertain
There’s finally some hope for the guy from New Hope, Minn. After seven months, the headaches, dizziness and blurred vision were starting to subside for Phoenix Coyotes’ defenseman Jim Johnson. “I wouldn’t say I’m completely symptom-free, but I’ve really improved a lot,” Johnson said in early June. “If I had to give you a percentage, I’d say I’m probably at about 75 per cent right now.” A 13-year veteran, Johnson suffered a severe concussion-perhaps one of the worst in the NHL this past season-in early November and didn’t return to the Phoenix lineup. Doctors warned him his playing career might be over, which remains a distinct possibility. GM Clarke ’fesses up to mistakes
There’s going to be a lot of mirror-watching in Philadelphia this summer, but Bob Clarke sounds like he might take up permanent residence in front of one. The Philadelphia Flyers’ president-GM accepted much of the blame for his team’s uneven season and early playoff exit. Clarke was so upset and embarrassed by the Flyers’ first round loss to the Buffalo Sabres it took him nine days to compose his thoughts before addressing the media. When Clarke did talk, he admitted he did a number of things wrong.
