Roadrunners will stay put despite arrival of Coyotes
Don’t count on the Coyote killing the Roadrunner just yet. In fact, the rivals may eventually team up. When the Winnipeg Jets announced they were moving their franchise to Phoenix to become the Coyotes next season, most assumed the Phoenix Roadrunners would be crushed by an Acme anvil. Bur Roadrunners’ owner Lyle Abraham announced May 14 that he had reached a deal with a local management company that will keep the International League team in Phoenix. The Arizona Sports and Entertainment Group, which has financial backing from the Ak-Chin Indian Community, has negotiated an agreement with Abraham to assume management of the team for the next two years with an option to buy. Fedorov: right stuff
Sergei Fedorov was Mr. Everything for the Detroit Red Wings this season. The team’s top scorer saw action at center, defense and right wing. Although the NHL all-star ballot listed him at center, we listed him as a right winger because he played the majority of the season there. Don’t expect overhaul
The Detroit Red Wings knew long before Game 6 of the Western Conference final against the Colorado Avalanche their road to the Stanley Cup was going to be grueling. They had to know it in the first round, which went six games against the Winnipeg Jets. Then they received confirmation in the second round when it took a shot from captain Steve Yzerman just inside the blueline in double overtime in Game 7 to down a huge underdog in the St. Louis Blues. Against the Avalanche, the Wings took their home ice advantage and used it against themselves, going into McNichols Sports Arena without a win.
