The U.S. hockey program has a unique opportunity to capture world attention this spring. The Americans are in a position to win their first World Championship since 1933. It has been 63 years since the U.S. last won gold at the global tournament. This year’s event is in Vienna (April 21-May 5). Newly named American GM Mike Milbury should have an abundance of talent at his disposal. Among players from non-playoff NHL teams or near non-playoff teams are Pat LaFontaine, Mike Modano. Poulin hopes luck changing

A lot of Tampa Bay Lightning fans probably didn’t realize it, but when Patrick Poulin came to the team in a trading deadline deal, they already had a vision of him etched into their minds. Poulin, you see, was the Chicago Blackhawks’ player who had to be carried off the ThunderDome ice March 5 after an awkward crash into the boards temporarily left his body an immobile heap of twisted muscle and misaligned vertebrae. He was the one around whom trainers and teammates hovered, waiting nervously to see if he’d move again. ‘I was pretty lucky,” Poulin said. “But for a while that night, I couldn’t move my back at all.
