Injuries limited his effectiveness as a freshman and sophomore, but Hulbig finally reached his potential as a senior. Hulbig had three goals and two assists and was named MVP of the Hockey East tournament as the fourth-seeded Friars stunned top seed Boston University 5-4 in a semifinal and third-seed Maine 3-2 in the final. That gave the left winger from Wrentham, Mass., 10 goals and 20 points in his past 11 games. Boston University beat second seed UMass-Lowell 7-3 in the March 16 consolation final. “The first two years weren’t the best of experiences for me,” said the 6-foot-3, 214-pound Hulbig. “But coach (Paul) Pooley deserves a lot of credit.
