Roenick’s milestone not pretty
The Chicago Blackhawks rarely play a finesse game. So it wasn’t surprising Jeremy Roenick’s 50th goal of the season wasn’t a thing of beauty. Roenick, 22, became the third player in franchise history to score 50 goals in a season when he banked one in off Ray Bourque’s leg March 7 in a 2-1 win at Boston. Roenick admitted fantasizing about how he would score his 50th but the way he got it wasn’t part of those dreams. So how did Roenick envision getting his milestone goal? “I’m all by myself, top comer,” he said. “It wasn’t like that but a goal is a goal. I kind of knew it wasn’t going to be too pretty. The scenario that has always been around me is that the most important ones aren’t the prettiest…
Will this be the year Murray’s jinx ends?

But for perhaps the first time in his otherwise splendid NHL career, Murray believes he has the team that will allow him to prove himself. His Detroit Red Wings are threatening to run away with the Norris Division and with 12 games remaining, were tied with Vancouver for the best record in the Campbell Conference. Should the two teams meet in the Stanley Cup semifinals, as many expect, Murray finally will finally get redemption. For whatever reasons, and he can list many, Murray’s teams…
Knights deal with Lightning
The expansion Atlanta Knights are starting fresh in the International League next season and they’re also starting fresh with the NHL’s newest expansion team. The Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning announced March 9 they have a working agreement next season. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The Knights have already sold 600 season tickets for next season. A coach and general manager for the Knights will be selected by the Lightning. IHL commissioner Thomas Berry said a western-based group, he wouldn’t say where, is close to meeting conditions for entry as a second expansion team. “If they get everything in place—and they look like they’re all set—by April 1, we’ll have a 12th team for next season,” Berry said. A group in Dallas has made overtures in the past few seasons but the IHL…
