SEASON TRYING FOR UNSUNG HERO
Cam Neely cracked Randy Ladouceur over the head with his stick Nov. 23 at Boston Garden and received a five-game suspension for his lack of control. But it wasn’t Ladouceur who suffered severe headaches that Thanksgiving weekend. It was his father, Roger, back home in Brockville, Ont. Roger Ladouceur, 53, who suffered a major heart attack a few years ago, was experiencing severe headaches. The initial fear was that the headaches were caused by blood pressure problems. It turned out to be worse. A CAT scan showed a massive brain tumor. Surgery was performed in Montreal and a major portion of the tumor was removed. But the problem is far from cleared up. Ladouceur, the Whalers’ 6-2, 220-pound defenseman, has played the season with a lot of pain. But his father’s predicament hasn’t stopped…

But Farrish said he is not interested in the position. “I’m just concerned about the team here,” said Farrish, who coached in Moncton the last two seasons. “I don’t even consider myself in the running for the position because I’ve only been at it for two seasons. “I kind of feel I need two or three more years of seasoning at this level before even being considered for an NHL job if one was available.” In his first season as…
THEN & NOW
A goaltender for Chicago, Calgary, Cleveland, Minnesota and Pittsburgh for 18 seasons from 1970-71 to ’87-88, Gilles Meloche, 40, is a scout for the Penguins. “I tried the jewelry business for a year-and-a-half, but nine-to-five wasn’t my bag,” Meloche said. “You don’t realize how much you miss hockey until you get out. It’s in your blood.”…
