SAINTS SMILE ON RECOVERING SHANNON

July 20 was supposed to be a joyous day for Darryl Shannon and friends as they planned to get together in Oshawa, Ont., for teammate Brian Blad’s wedding. But Shannon, a Newmarket Saints’ defenseman along with Blad, never made it to the ceremony. Mario Lemieux would run away with the Hart and Ross trophies’ balloting. Without question Toronto, Winnipeg and the New York Islanders would miss the playoffs. One of our correspondents, Philadelphia’s Al Morganti, went as far as forecasting the Quebec Nordiques would finish second in the Adams Division. “I looked at all the people Quebec has,” said Morganti at the time,”and with Michel Bergeron back as coach, if he gets a goalie, they’re dangerous.” Suffice it to say, Morganti is no longer…
