WINGS CLIPPED

The Kalamazoo Wings breezed through their Turner Cup quarterfinals with four straight victories over the Flint Spirits and Wings’ coach John Marks was hopeful that momentum would carry over into the semifinal round against Muskegon. MISSED ‘CHANCE OF A LIFETIME’ IRKS PAGE

The Minnesota North Stars were never supposed to get past the Chicago Blackhawks in the Norris Division semifinal. The fact that they didn’t was of no consolation. One of the strangest hockey sea sons in memory, a 16-8-1 start and 10-5-1 finish sandwiched around an atrocious 10-27-2 middle, ended when Minnesota was beaten 5-2 by the Blackhawks in Game 7 of the Norris Division semifinal April 16. “When we look back on this a few years down the road, we’re going to realize that it was a chance of a lifetime,” coach Pierre Page said. “We weren’t supposed to (beat Chicago) but we got to Game 7 and we had a chance. You only get so many chances to win a big game. “We had a good year; it could have been better.” The…
