EX-GOALIES HALL AND TONY ‘O’ HONORED
BLACKHAWKS The Hawks will retire Nos. I and 35, the uniform numbers of goaltenders Glenn Hall and Tony Esposito respectively, in ceremonies before their Nov. 20 game at the Stadium against the Vancouver Canucks. Esposito, now general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, had 74 shutouts in his 16-year career with the Hawks. His 15 shutouts in 1969-70 are the most for one season in modem NHL history and rank second all-time to the 22 recorded by George Hainsworth of Montreal in 1928-29. Hall, now a goaltending consultant with the Calgary Flames, holds the NHL record for consecutive games played by a goaltender, 502, from 1955-56 to 1962-63 with Chicago. With two shorthanded goals against Winnipeg, Denis Savard tied the Hawks’ club record shared by Eric Nesterenko, Stan Mikita, Chico Maki, Darryl Sutter…

One player,- Montreal Canadien defenseman Petr Svoboda, was nailed twice, which calls for an automatic one-game suspsension. Svoboda sat out his team’s Oct. 17 home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. “You have to leant from your mistakes,” said Svoboda, who was ejected Oct. 15 and Oct. 8 against the New York Islanders and Minnesota North Stars, respectively. “1 know I can’t afford to get another game misconduct because if 1 do I’m gone for two games. I’m going to have to keep my stick down for the rest of…

HEALY HUSHES CRITICS WITH THREE WINS FOR SURGING KINGS
KINGS After goaltender Rollie Melanson sprained his left knee in the opener against Detroit Oct. 6, Glenn Healy stepped in and won three consecutive games, a career high. “The goalies here seem to get a lot of pressure put on them.” Healy said. “There are a lot of critics. Everyone seems to think we should trade for this guy or get rid of that guy. I try not to let it bother me. It’s the team that wins and the team that loses. It’s not one guy. It’s not me and it’s not Wayne Gretzky. It’s everybody.” The King’s penalty killers have killed off a major, produced two shorthanded goals and allowed three power-play goals in 26 chances. The power play, on the other hand, was in a 2-for-25 rut over four…
