Vancouver Looks At Bigger Picture

VANCOUVER—-Life is never easy for the Vancouver Canucks. For the first time in club history they will be choosing as high as the No. 2 spot in the June entry draft. But most scouts say this is not a vintage year. The two top-rated players, according to the NHL Central Scouting, are in the Western League, which suits the Canucks fine. That’s not where the difficulty lies. They would likely choose whichever player is remaining between No. 1-rated Mike Modano of Prince Albert and No. 2 Trevor Linden of Medicine Hat. The choice facing president and general manager Pat Quinn, director of player personnel Brian Burke and coach Bob McCammon is whether to deal the draft pick.
