Doug King is a six-year-old who is playing his second season of organized hockey. A native of Toledo, Ohio, the 3-foot-10, 42-pound forward now resides in Chagrin Falls, near Cleveland. He plays for the Mite C division team of the Shaker Heights Hockey Association. A first-grade student at University School, Doug played right wing in his rookie season, but is now working hard to earn a spot at center. His favorite National Hockey League team is the Montreal Canadiens and his favorite NHL player is the Canadiens’ veteran defenseman, Larry Robinson. Speedy Courtnall Has Arrived With Toronto

TORONTO—Picture this, a water bug in skates on a frozen pond. Small skates, albeit, but skates. Then visualize Russ Courtnall darting across National Hockey League ice surfaces. See any similarity. Well, you should…because the Toronto Maple Leaf center has emerged as one of the NHL’s very best little men. And it’s largely the result of his outstanding skating ability. “I don’t know of anybody quicker,” said Red Wing general manager Jimmy Devellano, two days after watching Courtnall deep-six Detroit with two goals in a 3-1 Toronto victory. That made it nine straight games the team scoring leader had earned at least one point. He extended the streak to 10 with three assists when the Leafs lost to Chicago Blackhawks 6-4, their first loss against Chicago after nine consecutive victories.
