Consistency Would Mark A Banner Season
CHICAGO—Murray Bannerman doesn’t want to be the same goaltender he was last year for the Chicago Blackhawks. But he does want to be the same goaltender from one start to another. “Last year I was inconsistent,” Bannerman said. “I had a bad start, then at the halfway point I started playing better. “I did a little better going into the playoffs. The last three or four starts I felt real good, and then I ended up hurting myself and that put a stop to everything.” Bannerman, who has averaged 55 appearances the last three years, did not start the opening game of the season for the Hawks. Elmer Lach He formed one-third of the National Hockey League’s vaunted ‘Punch Line’ and is considered one of the all-time greats in the annals of Montreal Canadien hockey history. His name is Elmer Lach. His accomplishments speak for themselves. Fourteen NHL seasons, many of them alongside linemates Maurice (Rocket) Richard and Hector (Toe) Blake, with 215 goals and 408 assists in 664 regular-season games. A slick center, Lach won THN Player of the Year Award for his accomplishments in the 1951-52 season. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound native of Nokomis, Sask., scored 15 goals and a league-high 50 assists in 70 games, to lead the Habs to a second-place finish.
