The Shootout…

Shooter against the goalie, the best against the best, every shot counts, the pressure…the fun…a goalie was born for this moment…a shooter dreams of the big goal. What has become a focal point and a great tradition at the tournaments is the shootout contest, pitting goalie against skater. The arenas were packed with teammates and fans of the participants cheering, yelling and screaming tor their favorites to come up with one more save or put one more into the net. At the end of the competition the first place shooter received the top-line Bauer skates. The first place goalie received the famous Bauer Custom Goal Skate. Veteran On The Mend Once More

NEW YORK RANGERS NEW YORK—Call it a new lease on hockey life for Ron Greschner—the New York Rangers’ cat with nine lives. Greschner has worn the Blueshirts’ uniform longer than any other member of the team, played under seven coaches and survived injuries that would have permanently sidelined lesser men. Three years ago, severe back problems—it took him up to 30 minutes just to get out of bed—limited him to 29 games. The following season he appeared in just 10 games. Finally, during the 1983-84 season he was injury-free, playing in 77 games. But there was quickly a return to past form during the 1984-85 season. He separated his left shoulder on November 3—ironically, the tenth anniversary of his first game as a Ranger—and later re-aggravated the injury in January. Still, he managed to produce…
