Penguin Sniper Sheds Unfortunate Start
PITTSBURGH—Doug Shedden was the Penguins’ leading scorer and most valuable player last season, but this season he didn’t pick up where he left off as he broke his wrist in the first game of the year. Things have been getting better lately for Shedden, however. “Dougie Shedden, the last two or three weeks, has played just super,” said coach Lou Angotti. “He’s making real outstanding plays.” The Wallaceburg, Ont., native was Pittsburgh’s fifth-round selection in the 1980 entry draft and registered 51 goals and 72 assists plus 16 goals and 22 assists in 19 playoff games for Sault Ste. Marie in his final junior season. He split his first professional year between Pittsburgh and Erie of the American Hockey League. The 22-year-old right winger scored 24 goals and added 43 assists for the Penguins…


Bauer Player of the week
When a team such as Northeastern, which may miss the ECAC playoffs this season, defeats a league power such as Boston University to win the prestigious Beanpot Invitational tournament at the Boston Garden, it has to get solid netminding. And that’s exactly what junior goalie Tim Marshall provided as Northeastern defeated BU 5-2 before more than 14,000 fans at the Garden. Marshall, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound native of Hull, MA, made 32 saves en route to the prestigious victory, a feat which earned him college player-of-the-week honors for the period ending Feb. 19. At the end of the season, THE HOCKEY NEWS will select a Bauer College Player of the Year.…
