MONTREAL—Alfie Turcotte had heard all the rumors. Speculation was that the 18-year-old from Gary. IN. was going to be heading back to his junior hockey home in Portland for the balance of the 1983-84 hockey season. Turcotte, brought up to the Canadiens after playing in the junior world championships. did not know whether he was going to play his 10th NHL game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and if he did, he wasn’t sure if he would play another this season. Venerable Sittler Still Going Strong At 33
PHILADELPHIA—The Hockey Hall of Fame Committee will not have to figure out how Darryl Sittler did it. When he retires with more than 500 goals and close to 700 assists, the numbers will speak and the doors will open. Watch him, though, and his success is not easily explained. To be sure.
