The Hockey News

The International Hockey Weekly Founded in 1947 Published by W.C.C. Publishing Ltd. 85 Scarsdale Road, #100, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M3B 2R2. Under The Circumstances IF NOTHING ELSE, Canadian afficionados of international hockey lead the league in gnashing of teeth. Each year, Canada sends an entry to the world championships in a European nation. And each year it returns home with the bronze medal and unwavering respect for the Soviet Union’s Big Red Machine. The Islanders opened the pursuit…

He wasn’t around for the Mariners’ second championship a year later, but Tom Gorence is back this season and making big contributions in the Mariners’ run for a third title. With Gorence leading the way on a checking line that is doing much of the team’s scoring, the Mariners opened up a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series against the Fredericton Express. Just as this issue was going to press, the teams were skating onto the ice at Fredericton’s Aitken Centre for Game Six. After splitting the first two games at Fredericton, the Mariners returned home to the Cumberland County Civic Center to…
