Questions And Answers APART FROM PROVIDING us with the most delicious electrocution of the season, the playoffs always inspire provocative questions which lead to profound answers for the future. Here they are: QUESTION I: What effect will the Flyers’ debacle have on hockey in Philadelphia? On GM Keith Allen? On coach Bob McCammon? On Broad Street goonery practice? Answer: None. Attendance will hold next season, although the Flyers will slip because neither Bobby Clarke, nor Darryl Sittier or Bill Barber are getting speedier. Keith Allen is safe because he’s smart and boss Ed Snider wouldn’t know whom to trust for a GM even if he wanted to axe Allen. McCammon’s future is predicted on (a) whether Snider’s bitter playoff aftertaste holds through June. If so, McCammon could be in trouble; (b) on his…

H&B Louisville Hockey H&B Louisville Hockey MONTREAL—The Verdun Juniors and the expansion Longueuil Chevaliers are both one victory shy of a berth in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League finals. The Juniors followed up their 4-3 opening-game upset in Shawinigan by thrashing the Cataractes 7-2 at home. The Juniors lost the third game 7-6 in double overtime—their first setback ir seven playoff games—but took a com manding 3-1 lead in the series back or home ice with a convincing 7-3 win. As for the Chevaliers, when we last left you they were leading 2-0 against the league-champion Laval Voisins Although the Voisins won Game There on home ice, 5-4 in overtime, the Cheva liers returned the favor back in Lon gueuil, winning by the identical score—also in overtime. Ranger defenseman Ron Greschner fingers the cause of the Flyers’ demise. He tells intimates that Philly goalie Pelle Lindbergh choked. Ex-Caps’ coach Gary Green offers another theory. “Biggest mistake the Flyers made,” Green, a USA Network commentator, tells BLUELINES, “was to give Lindbergh The (Initiation) Shave at mid-season. It’s one thing to cut the hair of a Canadian hockey player, but the Europeans take it a different way.” Green maintains Lindbergh lost his touch after The Shave. Another theory heard among some members of the Philly media was the mid-season loss of the captaincy turned off Bill Barber and the Barber-Bob McCammon split affected other players. Philly Inquirer’s Al Morganti isolated the Flyer problem in advance—failure to decide on a playoff goalie until the last game of the regular season.…
