Seven Proves Unluckv For Peoria’s Patrick

H&B Louisville Hockey H&B Louisville Hockey PEORIA—Seven wasn’t a lucky number for Prancers’ coach Glenn Patrick. It was the same as shooting craps. With just nine games remaining in Peoria’s first season in the International Hockey League. Patrick was fired. At the time, Peoria had a seven-game losing streak. General manager Ken Wilson made the announcement the day after the Prancers dropped their seventh straight game, a 7-2 decision in Milwaukee. The Prancers are last in the West Division and also last overall in the eight-team circuit. “I have to take my share of failure of our club to make the playoffs,” Wilson said. “The botton line is winning. I made a change at this time because we have lost seven in a row and we have had only a 7-10-3 record at home since…

Perry’s Looking To Trade To Reshape Kings’ Lineup

LOS ANGELES—No question about it, the Kings have a massive rebuilding project on their hands. And they know it. The Kings have absolutely no intention of beginning the 1983-84 season with the same cast which just stumbled to a last-place finish in the Smythe Division and failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot down on the New Haven farm and the Kings won’t have a pick in the June entry draft until the third round. Help will have to come in the form of trades. “We’re going to have to do some dealing,” coach Don Perry said. “I don’t think it’s any secret that if we can possibly come up with another goaltender and a defenseman it would help.…

Fate Works Against Leafs I In A Hard-Fought Playoff

TORONTO—It was as if Fate had interceded and joined the North Stars for the playoffs. The battered but unbowed Maple Leafs were not destined to win their Norris Division semi-final against Minnesota even though the teams divided 36 goals in the series. The record book will show three victories for Minnesota (all of them by 5-4 scores, two in overtime), and one triumph for the Maple Leafs (6-3 in Game Three). Those who watched the struggle between these two teams know that there were no losers in this confrontation, only those who haw to live with disappointment. “I’d rather play on a team with a lot of heart than one with a lot of talent that doesn’t try,” said goalie Mike Palmateer, who dragged his battered body through four games in five…
