Bruins To Continue Rebuilding From Within
BOSTON—Ever since the Boston Bruins made an early exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs last April, their fans have been waiting expectantly for general manager Harry Sinden to make the blockbuster move that will bring the team out of its two-year-long tailspin. But, as August moved into September, nothing happened. “It’s not that we haven’t been trying,” said Sinden, whose track record includes one of the biggest blockbusters of them all. Brad Park for Phil Esposito. “We’ve wanted to make same moves but no one wants to tradee us the type of players we want.” Since Sinden is not one to make a deal just for the sake of movement, the Bruins appear to be committing themselves to a continuation of the youth movement of the past two years in which they have…

Allan Herbert Stanley holds the dubious distinction of being booed out of his NHL home in New York not once but twice. No other member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame can make that statement. Few who applauded the debonair defenseman at the induction ceremonies in Toronto recall that Stanley holds the world’s record for villification by a professional athlete. Nor do they realize that his ascent to stardom despite such adversity is as much a reason for his induction as was Stanley’s pure defensive ability. If “Big Allan,” as we knew him, had told anyone in 1954 that someday he would make it to The Hall of Fame, New York City’s…
