NHL Player Of The Week
Kent Nilsson of the Calgary Flames has often been touted as the best European player to land in North American professional hockey, and judging by his pace since coming into the NHL last year, the claim appears to be justified. The 24-year-old Swedish import turned in a spectacular scoring week for the Flames as he notched two hat tricks, back to back, and added three assists for nine points to raise his personal season total to 101, making him the first non-Canadian ever to reach the 100-point mark. It also earned him recognition as THE HOCKEY NEWS Player of the Week. Nilsson, who scored 81 goals in two seasons in the WHA with Winnipeg, had 93 points in 80 games for the Flames last season. His talent as both a goal scorer…

Bobcat Turnabout Simply Amazing
BRANDON—It is only when one looks back at the record that the University of Brandon Bobcats posted three short seasons ago that one really realizes what a masterful job coach Andy Murray has done. Inheriting a team that posted a 2-24 record and were the laughingstock of university hockey out west, Murray has built the Bobcats into the nation’s premier hockey team. “It’s certainly been nice to have been ranked number one all year but now the pressure starts to mount because everyone wants to knock us off,” said Murray. “On the other hand it gave the guys something to shoot for when we faced a little adversity.” From the opening week of the rankings the Bobcats have held onto the No. 1 position, something no team has ever done. “Usually,…

Larocque Outburst Doesn’t Hinder Habs Streak
MONTREAL—The Montreal Canadiens were perfect in February. But. despite a 9-0-3 record in the shortest month, not everything was perfect with the Canadiens. As his team was making a run towards first place, veteran goaltender Michel “Bunny” Larocque said he no longer wanted to play in Montreal. Larocque, a Canadien for his eight National Hockey League seasons, decided 10 days ago that he would request a trade, but did not go public with his complaints until after he played magnificently during a 2-2, state-of-the-art tie in St. Louis last Wednesday. Why Larocque played at all against the best team in the NHL only coach Claude Ruel knows for sure. Larocque didn’t know; the rest of the Canadiens didn’t know, either. What they did know is that Bunny hadn’t dressed for a month, not since…

OHL Player Of The Week
Everyone in the Ontario Major Hockey League is aware of Tony Tanti’s scoring exploits but little is known about the players behind the great Oshawa Generals’ goal scorer. One such individual is Mitch Lamoureux, the stocky 5-8, 175-pound center who helped set Tanti up for many of his record-breaking 76 goals this season. Lamoureux is a scorer in his own right and has managed to fire 42 pucks into the opposition nets while picking up 64 assists for 106 scoring points. During a recent four-game splurge, he scored six times and set up two more goals to win OHL Player of the Week honors. The 18-year-old Oshawa pivot has already passed his 1979-80 totals of 28 goals and 76 assists and even though he is small in stature, he plays an aggressive…
