Komets’ Scully Has Tools For NHL Career

FORT WAYNE—Barry Scully slipped in front of the intended receiver just outside the Fort Wayne blueline. He dropped his stick on the puck and exploded between two Port Huron defenders and set sail for the Flag net. Goalie Bart Hunter braced. Scully dropped his shoulder, took a peek and blasted the puck into the upper righthand corner of the net. “I wish some of those National Hockey League scouts who say Scully can’t skate would have seen him on that play,” said one of the observers from the press box high above the Memorial Coliseum ice surface. “The other times,” Scully was to say later, “I shot low. Moncton Kelly Division Champions

MONCTON—The University of Moncton assured themselves of the Kelly Division championship and a bye into the semi-finals of the Atlantic University Athletic Association playoffs as they clobbered the slumping University of New Brunswick Red Devils 9-1. Kevin Gaudett and Remi Levesque each chipped in with a pair of markers while John Kinch ruined Benoit Fortier’s shutout bid as he scored the lone UNB goal at 17:34 of the third period. Fortier’s next attempt was not to be denied as he recorded his first shutout in regular season play as he two days later blanked the Dalhousie Tigers, 4-0. Once again Gaudett paced the Aigles Bleus offensively with two goals. With first place all wrapped up for Moncton, coach Jean Perron is faced with the task of trying to keep his high-flying Aigles…
