Sabres Sharpened By Surging Savard
BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres have not been playing up to expectations much of the time, of late, but one player who is doing better than most people expected is Andre Savard. The veteran center from Temiscamingue, Quebec, who says he didn’t expect to still be with the club at this stage of this season, has been a key figure in recent games. The Sabres, who have won only five of their last 14 games, two of eight on the road, going into this week, were struggling in Hartford recently, playing lackluster hockey and trailing, 1-0, in the second period. Barnes To Whalers Sweetens Fiver Pot
PHILADELPHIA - The Flyers last week traded Cyd Barnes and her husband, Norm, to the Hartford Whalers for a No. 2 draft choice in either 1980 or 1981. A new anthem singer has not yet been auditioned, but a couple of defensemen, Blake Wesley and Terry Murray, are already in Norm’s place. It’s a great life being a hockey player, as long as you buy houses which have wheels on them. Two years ago Norm was a 25-year-old career minor leaguer. Last year he was playing in the NHL All Star Game, the best defenseman on the league’s first-place club.
