Islanders’ Resch Back In Fine Form
LOUISVILLE HOCKEY STICKS LOUISVILLE HOCKEY STICKS LONG ISLAND-Glenn Resch is back. Back from an injury, back from exile, back in form. To that, Resch said: “I feel like a kid all over again.” Resch is no kid. At 32, his career with the Islanders has been imperiled this season by ligament damage in his right knee that, at first, was believed to be far more serious than it actually was. Resch’s career also has been threatened with by his decision to play out his option. For the longest time, Resch was unhappy. He hardly played in the playoffs last season. The Islanders marched to the Stanley Cup without him. And this season, while he was hurt, the Islanders brought up rookie Roland Melanson, who turned in a 4-0-1 record in five games before being…
PASSING THE PUCK
• JERRY BUSS, flamboyant owner of the Los Angeles Kings, told Bob Fachet of the Washington Post, “The Kings will be netting more money by 1984 than the Montreal Canadiens.” Buss, the supreme optimist, firmly believes he can make hockey the winner it should be in Southern California. Cooke, a former Canadian, now lives-in Virginia and was recently remarried. He is still very busy as chairman of the board of Teleprompter and majority owner of the Washington Redskins.., The Minnesota North Stars were part of an NHL first recently in Hartford when Minneapolis Star writer Robin…

CALGARY—Guy Chouinard will be the first to admit that, on the surface, the scenario seems to add up. Ever since coach Al MacNeil benched Chouinard for two games on the Calgary Flames’ last road trip, the high-scoring center has been hot. Since returning to the line-up eight games ago, Chouinard has scored nine goals and added five assists, including a hat trick against the New York Rangers. That would indicate that whatever MacNeil had in mind when he benched Chouinard for games against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers seems to have worked. Not so, says Chouinard. “That may be how it looks, but that’s not the way I feel,” Chouinard said. “I wasn’t trying to show them [MacNeil and general manager Cliff Fletcher] what I could do or anything. I’m playing the same…
