Third Line Decisive In Hawk Sweep

CHICAGO—The Black Hawks terminated the longest losing streak in National Hockey League playoff history and Coach Eddie Johnston turned out to be a prophet. Before the opening round series with the St. Louis Blues began, Johnston predicted that it would be decided by the play of Chicago’s unsung No. 3 line, a troika consisting of rookie Doug Lecuyer at center, Ted Bulley on left wing, and Tim Higgins on right wing. Sure enough, Lecuyer, Bulley, and Higgins were in the limelight as the Hawks swept the best-of-five series in three games. They went into Game 1 with a 16-game playoff losing streak, stretching back to 1975 in Buffalo. And to get this giant ape off their backs they had to knock St. Louis goalie Mike Liut flat on his back. Lecuyer scored the winning…
