Olympians Inspired Hockey Pride After watching the US Olympic hockey team play three of the best hockey games I have ever seen, I’m starting to realize that I must be following the wrong league when I watch the NHL. Not only have I seen precision play executed, good, solid clean hitting, and some very pretty goal scoring, but I have also seen the absence of the one aspect of hockey that all true hockey fans hate: Fighting. It’s time for the head men in the NHL offices, including John Ziegler, to realize fighting has no place in hockey. It never has, and never will. TV Networks Adopt ‘Wait And See’ Attitude

The victory at Lake Placid inspired a surge of optimism from many people in the NHL, who thought that the attention being directed towards hockey would, finally, land the NHL a national television contract. Here’s what each major U.S. network, through anonymous spokesmen, has to say about that possibility: CBS There’s a large difference between a seven-game series in the Olympics, where nationalism and patriotism are involved, and an 80-game NHL schedule. So I don’t think that it would be fair to assume that the support for the American hockey team will necessarily translate into support for watching a wide variety of NHL games.
