HOCKEY VIEWPOINT
Living With Soviets IN HOCKEY in Cuba, in just about every area of existence, the Soviets are there, stronger than rent, more determined than a mortgage collector, and a major problem for North Americans is coping with the little devils. The National Hockey League All Star team didn’t cope all that well with the national hockey team of the USSR in last winter’s Challenge Cup series. It was enough to make a few NHL folks mutter: “Who needs the aggravation?” A small group of NHL owners, notably Harold Ballard of the Toronto Maple Leafs, figures the league should take the same approach to the Soviets as it does towards Zulus: Ignore them completely. “All those Commies want is to come to North America at our expense and take home large amounts of money,” steamed…
Gingras A Surprise On Canadiens’ Blueline

The nerve of you to select the St. Louis Blues for last place in the Smythe Division behind such World Hockey Association retreads as Winnipeg and Edmonton. Why do you persist in demeaning our Blues? Have they done something to you? Perhaps when the new, improved Blues finish second this season, you will eat your column. Betty FerberElorrissant, Mo. Whoa, THE HOCKEY NEWS makes far better reading than eating. The Blues have done nothing at all to me, except put me…
