Grand Rapids Wins Wild One On Ice But Three Team Stars Suspended
GRAND RAPIDS— The Owls staged a furious rally to win a record-breaking 3-2 victory over the slumping Saginaw Gears but lost the heart of their hockey club as well—for an undetermined length of time. The come-from-behind victory was the 27th straight at home for the Owls without a loss, breaking the IHL record of 26 established by the Cincinnati Mohawks 23 years ago. Not around for the finish were Rick Dorman, Dean Magee and John Flesch, and the three may not be in uniform for sometime. Prior to a two-goal spurt in the final 2:32 which overcame a 2-1 Saginaw lead, Magee, Dorman and Flesch physically attacked referee Tod Larson after the referee had disallowed what appeared to be a goal by the Owls’ Archie King at 16:06 of the final period. Larson…

Juniors Streaking into Playoffs
MONTREAL— On the threshold of the Quebec Major Junior League playoffs, the Montreal Juniors may have decided that this is the time to get their act together. The Juniors won four straight, and appeared to be picking up the winning attitude that a team of their calibre should have. Apparently, coach Roger Bedard had a lot to do with the club’s “shape-up”. “He gave us a good talk,” said defenseman Mark Hardy. “He told us we better start putting out.” Commenting on what he said to the players, Bedard remarked: “Let’s just say that’s between them and I.” Whatever it was, it seems to have worked. By defeating both Shawinigan and Quebec twice, the Juniors pulled to within two points of third place (overall) Verdun. “We’re skating and hitting which we weren’t doing before,” says captain…

Flyers’ Freshman Wilson Overcame Learning Pains To Become Game Breaker
PHILADELPHIA— Add Behn Wilson’s name to the small group of Flyers who can win games single-handedly. When the Flyers have needed big goals, they’ve turned to Rick MacLeish, Bobby Clarke, and Reggie Leach. As Wilson nears the end of his rookie National Hockey League season, he has earned a place on the game-breaker’s list. Consider his latest credentials: • In a 4-4 tie with the Bruins in Boston, Wilson triggered a club-record three-goals-within-35 seconds spurt. • With 10 seconds remaining and the Flyers trailing Toronto, 4-2, Wilson scored to raise the hopes of the Flyers, who have specialized this season in last-minute rallies. This time, however, Toronto won, 4-3. • In a 3-2 victory over Minnesota, Wilson broke in from the right point, eluded a checker, skated through the slot, behind the net, and back to…
