Swedish Smorgasbord… THE TWO NEW STARS of the New York Rangers, Ulf Nilsson and Anders Hedberg, are conducting themselves marvellously well as they take their first turn around the National Hockey League. It cost the Rangers $2.4 million to sign the two for just two years and everywhere they go they are put under great pressure by the press. The expatriates from Sweden and Winnipeg are bright young men who took courses at the University of Stockholm and speak excellent English. They are charming guys, agreeable and articulate, k They do not seem to mind being asked to answer the same questions over and over again as they travel from town to town. They seem unspoiled. Hedberg says, “We are paid not only to play, but to pay back the team with publicity.”…

Bowling Green Shows Defense In CCHA Sweep
BOWLING GREEN— The fifth-ranked Bowling Green State University hockey team of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association used a pair of solid goaltending efforts by sophomore Wally Charko and timely scoring to sweep the University of Vermont 52 and 7-2. All American candidate John Marked opened the weekend scoring in front of 3,003 fans in the BGSU Ice Arena at 6:24 of the first period assisted by freshmen sensations George McPhee and John Gibb. Gibb scored his fifth power play goal of the season to give BG a 2-0 lead after two periods. The Falcons (5-3) added goals by captain Paul Titanic, Bruce Newton and Steve Dawe to complete the win and Charko made 42 saves. NHL’S…Player of the Week
There has been a lot of talk in Altanta about Bob MacMillan and Tom Lysiak, but not to be overlooked is the play of Guy Chouinard, who is currently leading the high-scoring club in goals with 13. Chouinard, who was perhaps the Flames’ most consistent player a year ago is off Io. his best start ever in the National Hockey League and last week contributed five goals to the Flames’ offense. Chouinard scored the game-winning goal in a crucial divisional match-up with the New York Rangers and entered the upper half of the Top 10 among league scorers. He also had one goal in an 8-7 loss to Washington, another in a 5-3 comeback victory over Detroit and both Atlanta goals in their 5-2 loss to Boston.…
