Wildcats Start Fast With Sweeps

MARQUETTE— Coach Rick Comley’s Northern Michigan Wildcats are off to another fast start winning their first four games in Lakeview Arena. In fact, NMU is the lone undefeated team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. NMU has swept Manitoba and Miami (Ohio) University in the early going, despite the loss of defenseman Don Waddell to an ankle injury suffered in an exhibition game at Michigan Tech. Last season Waddell captained the U.S. National Junior team and was named co-winner of the CCHA Player-of-the-Year Award with "Bowling Green’s John Markell. Another injured Wildcat is junior netminder Barrie Oakes. NMU’s goaltending has been fine so far with freshman Jon Benson replacing Oakes as the partner to junior Steve Weeks.
