Regular Season’s Record Means Little Claim Bruins Who Yearn For NHL Title

● BUFFALO SABRES combined a fund drive for the Western New York State Association of the American Heart Association with a drive to get their rookie goalie Don Edwards the Hart Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL player who is most valuable to his team. The club gave out buttons with Edwards’ picture on them, along with a heart outline and the words, “The Hart for the Heart.” A donation of $1 for the button went to the Heart Fund. General manager Punch Imlach, who served as chairman of the Heart Association’s annual fund drive after suffering a heart attack in 1972, said: “The heart of our hockey club; the vital center, is Don Edwards and he deserves special attention, just as each one of us should pay special attention…


Scoring Balance Rights Whalers
HARTFORD— Heading into the last week of the season and gearing up for the playoffs, the New England Whalers seemed to rediscover their offensive guns. Beginning with an exhibition victory, the Whalers averaged seven goals per game in wins over a touring Finnish team, the Cincinnati Stingers, and the Houston Aeros. Against the Finns the Whalers turned to intimidation tactics after the outclassed visitors broke to a two-goal lead. The Whalers then ran in seven straight goals before yielding a last minute tally, for the final of 7-3. WHA Closes TV Deal With CBC For Finals
TORONTO— The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has announced plans for regional television coverage of the World Hockey Association playoffs, including national coverage in French and English for the final Avco Trophy round. Televised games will be those scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Friday evenings. Included in the coverage on the national network are final-round contests on Friday, May 19, Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, if necessary. If games six and seven of the series are necessary, they will be televised on either May 26,27 or 28.…
